I just started listening to “Ready Player Two”, after a few years back, having listened to, then later seeing the movie “Ready Player One”. Great stuff!
There’s a reference to the hero setting “Max Headroom” to his personal assistant, mainly because Max was irreverant and sarcastic. So, how to create an irreverant and sarcastic personal assistant? Just a thought, but the main point of this post …
It’s like asking Siri, what is 0/0? Sometimes her answer is snarky:
“Imagine that you have 0 cookies and you split them evenly among 0 friends. How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense. And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.”
Then shortly after the Max Headroom section in the book, there is a great quote - off topic, I know, but hopefully worthwhile and with some sense of wisdom:
“My friend Kira always said that life is like an extremely difficult, horribly unbalanced videogame. When you’re born, you’re given a randomly generated character, with a randomly determined name, race, face, and social class. Your body is your avatar, and you spawn in a random geographic location, at a random moment in human history, surrounded by a random group of people, and then you have to try to survive for as long as you can. Sometimes the game might seem easy. Even fun. Other times it might be so difficult you want to give up and quit. But unfortunately, in this game you only get one life. When your body grows too hungry or thirsty or ill or injured or old, your health meter runs out and then it’s Game Over.
