TuneIn Internet Radio Streaming Skill - testing and feedback

nuts, I kind of hoped I installed it wrong

I don’t think this is a Mycroft thing anymore indeed.

Perhaps the output of /var/log/messages or the command; ‘dmesg’ give some more pointers.

(Believe we need bug hunt your underlying linux system)

Well it started with raspbian-stretch_Picroft_2019-09-27 image.

I’ve installed Respeaker drivers and may have updated Mycroft as it’s mycroft-core 19.8.4

Nothing else has been installed

True, I have a rpi3 with respeaker 4mic hat and as soon as I turn on the LEDs, the whole thing freezes.

Sometimes things break. Either hardware or software. There might be a corrupted file or something.

Just shooting out of the hip here. Monkey business sometimes needs monkey business as solution

Here is the output of ‘dmesg’

Please look at PR7 Modify TuneIn to use the AudioService as it defently would be better to use AudioService than play_mp3 directly.

Problems with stations not returning contenttype can be fixed by adding contenttype to the parameter in audio_service.play like this

``self.audio_service.play((self.stream_url,'audio/x-mpeg'), utterance,)`

I installed your skill but I thinks install is too heavy. There is too much dependencies. Is it really necessary to install qt5-gtk ?

Just installed on picroft (raspberry pi4) and am streaming my favorite radio station.

I noticed that you may remove the “Stream” intent in the future. However, I ran into an issue with “Play” defaulting to my Spotify skill. When I used “Stream
” it worked great. Would recommend keeping the Stream intent.

Thanks!

When I hit a station that do not work it retries for ever and lock play function. I have to restart mycroft to start streaming new station. Any way to exclude those stations from search
 ?

could you add an exclude function pls ?

Love this skill, thank you

Do you have some of the names of stations that dosnt work ?

I am fidling with a simalar skill that uses Radio Browser instead of tune-in. And using a nother way to play the stereams - not using vls as audio backend. I would like to test if that can play the radios that fail for you.

still not ready for market but the skil is here https://github.com/andlo/radio-skill

United Misfits Online Radio
Avenues fm
Hip Hop Muzic Hub
Avatars Radio

I tried you’re new radio skill. git coned it to skills
it shows up on https://account.mycroft.ai/skills but I get the usual “It sounds like you are trying to listen to some music, but you have not yet
” when trying to play

That is strange. Ill try look into tht.

The stations you provided dosnt exists on Radio Browser but you can add stations from this page radio-browser.info

But maybe we should make a new post and not hijacking the post about TuneIn skill

Hi there,
i just installed the Skill, but it won’t occur in the skills list on
https://account.mycroft.ai/skills
I also installed the requirements.sh and it runs till end message without any visible errors.
How to check the correct embedding of the skill?
How can i activate the skill, so it will belistet in the Mycroft-Skills-List?

When typing msm list the tunein will be announced as “[installed]” :
mycroft-skill-tunein.johnbartkiw [installed]
but obviously it does nothing and it’s not accessable in Mycroft.

Please help, i miss my 90s country radio stations
Cheers
Caruso

restarted mycroft? And there is the vocab thing again

of course, restarted a few times, installed the requirements. Problem is still there, the skill doesn’t apper in the skills-list in home.mycroft.ai. If it isn’t there, i assume it’s not embedded correctly or is not working properly. But i don’t have an idea where to look for!
In “msm list” it is [installed], so i think, it should work. There are no errors while installing and the final message tells me, that the skill was successfully installed. So no clue, where to see next.

Any ideas?

Cheers

/var/log/mycroft/skills.log is always a good place to find the source

Hello johnbart.
I started with Picroft in April of this year, and was glad to read about this Tunein skill. I was even more thrilled that it worked pretty well also.
Not long ago, the Picroft software did an update as I booted it up for the day, the Tunein skill continued as before, no issues.
I use the mycroft-cli-client frequently and thought I was reading error messages, and also noticed there were messages that appeared from the Mycroft system that I didn’t recall seeing in April. As a result, I thought I would do a fresh install of everything just to clean out any possibly bad bits.
I started by reflashing with Picroft_v20.08_2020-09-07, and after configuring the Mycroft to use the 3.5mm RPi audio jack, I finished setting up the Picroft environment as I had it before. I also checked that streaming worked by playing the NPR news skill. When I went to install the Tunein skill though, I noticed the console reported library install issues. I thought I had made a mistake and put much time in to trying to diagnose the issues. I was rather puzzled that I could plainly read that the Tunein skill experienced library errors on Picroft startup, but knowing there were errors when msm did the Tunein install, I knew there was something I was missing.

Finally, I realized that there was also a Raspian update release since my original Picroft install in April.
Remembering that, I did another Picroft flash, then ran:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

When those upgrades finished and after the Picroft reboot, I did the msm install again, there were no errors, and I’m very glad to have the skill working with no issues once more.

I hope this helps someone.

After installing this, then doing an update/upgrade - this works only once without fail. After the first stream however, it will not play another until reset.
Aside from this oddity, it works perfectly. I can stop/start Picroft and ask ‘stream ’ and it works every time. For some reason, it can’t recover after ‘stop stream’, or just ‘stop’.

I don’t know if that helps anyone. I’m not much of a coder, but I do love listening to my music around the house. This is so replacing Alexa asap if I can just get a music solution worked out.
I just need something that I can get to play radio streams. I’m not much of a Spotify / Pandora type of guy. I’ve got several internet radio stations and terrestrial station streams that I like to listen to - all of them are on TuneIn or regular direct URLs that would work otherwise.

Thank you!

Hello. Very new user here. I installed the skill but when I check the skill in the cli-client it’s in red and it doesn’t seem to work. What am I missing here?

I’ve sent 2 Pull Requests for:

  • fuzzy matching of the request NodeList to sort out the correct station (by extension this PR also leverages the TuneIn APIs own fuzzy matching capability - its suggestions - if a station is misunderstood by mycrofts STT) #
  • dependency management through manifest.yaml to be able to pull system dependencies with different distros (using Pako) #

Please review

Another thing not covered is that CPS query matching (CPS_match_query_phrase) should perform the request at this early stage to modify CPSMatchLevel to make concise assertions about the capabilty to satisfy the request. This is how most CPSkills are handling it.
Oh, and the application of aliases through tunein_aliases.yaml could be handled through the web api instead. Would make the option more readily apparent.

Edit: Merged. Thanks
