Stand-alone MyCroft for Android

The current description for the Android app says “Android companion app, sends commands from your Android device to your Mycroft system and returns the output as speech or other medium to the Android device.”

Are there any plans for a stand-alone Android app, to compete with the likes of Google Assistant, Alexa, Cortana, and Bixby?

I’m asking because I was pondering developing a simple skill (a trainer for workouts), but if it’s just going to be strictly for Mycroft owners and geeks, then I probably won’t bother.

Hi there @12people, at the moment Mycroft for Android is driven and developed entirely by our Community Developers. I know that at least one of our Community Developers is working on a standalone Mycroft Android app. What I’d recommend here is jumping in to our Chat, on the Android channel, to learn more from our Android community developers.

Kind regards,

Thanks! Just found the project: https://github.com/MycroftAI/MycroftCore-Android . I don’t think I have enough time and skills to contribute effectively, but it’s good to know it’s being worked on! Will keep an eye on it!
