Use Mycroft Mark II to Replace Consumer Infrared Remote Control

I will soon nbe the proud owner of a Mycroft Mark II, for which I had two applications in mind:

  1. To replace a universal remote control to control a hlf dozen devices in an HTPC system. The universal remote control (a URC-8603) uses consumer infrared (CIR) signal to control the various devices, but I have a converter which can create the needed IR pulses from an electrical signal. The electrical signals are pretty well (unofficially) standardized. For example, my Onkyo receiver has a mini-jack input capable of accepting such electrical signals directly. How difficult would it be to do this with the Mark II? Does a skill exist that could help?
  2. To create a voice-controlled intercom system (with other such devices). Has anybody done anything in this direction?
